A total of 25 students are currently enrolled in the Scholarship program. The stipends that are provided underwrite part of the living expenses of the students and enable them to continue their studies either at high school or university level. Due to new guidelines, the new slots for scholarships will go to children who reside in the orphanages that the FRIENDS OF ACAPULCO support. At present 16 of the 25 scholarship students reside in one of the four local orphanages.
Letters from recipients of our Scholarship Program
I am writing this letter to say “thank you”, Friends of Acapulco, for giving to me an economic support during my studies. I had my Bachelor degree in Electromechanics Engineering from the Technologic Institute of Acapulco in 2000 (with a final mark of 94.6). In that moment, my family was living a really bad situtation (economically) and without any doubt the economic support that you gave to me was fundamental for my family and myself. Having that economic support every month gave to me the confidence to chose the best career based on what I wanted for my future and no based on my familiy difficulties. Therefore, just I could say “Thank You so much”, because you are a fundamental key in my professional and personal life. My family and myself are grateful and we will be so grateful with you forever. A littel bit of my history after have finished my university degree.
Because I obtained the highest mark in the Technologic Institute of Acapulco in the field of Engineering I was awarded with a scholarship to study a post grade. I started my master degree in Mechanical specialized in Mechanical Design in the National Polytechnic Institute in August, 2000. I had my Master Degree n July, 2003. I met several people during my master studies, people who obtained a PhD or a Master Degree from different countries in the world, through their experience I knew about CONACyT and all the procedures to get a scholarship to study abroad. I was awarded with a scholarship to study at the University of Sheffield. I started my PhD studies in Mechanics specialized in Human Dynamics in September, 2003. At the moment, I finished my thesis writing and I am just waiting for my final examination which will be held in March, 2008. In August, 2007, before finishing my PhD studies I received an offer of appointment from Brunel University West London to work like a Research Assistant in a Project for Shell Company. Currently, I am a member of staff at Brunel since the last October. Best regards.
